With a bachelor of science degree and a masters degree in international business management, A.J. Gravel has over 14 years combined experience in consulting expert and litigation support services project management and operations. Mr. Gravel is the managing director of the historical research and investigations group for LECG. He was formerly vice president of consulting & technology for The IT Group and acted as president of PHR Environmental Consultants, Inc. (PHR), an IT Group Company. While with PHR and subsequently with LECG, Mr. Gravel has managed the execution of hundreds of environmental, products liability, and other investigations, discovery and litigation support projects from the company’s Washington, DC office. Mr. Gravel has acted as an expert witness, consulting expert and 30(b)(6) witness and has provided deposition testimony on a number of cases.

Mr. Gravel specializes in matters involving retrospective analysis. His environmental projects have dealt with numerous CERCLA, RCRA and toxic tort-related issues such as potentially responsible party (PRP) identification; corporate succession and asset searches; land use and business operation histories; past industrial chemical generation, usage, and disposal analysis; cost allocation analysis; insurance investigations and government involvement studies. Mr. Gravel specializes in government involvement matters and has provided consulting and expert services for both public and private sector clients in that area. His government involvement case experience includes work relating to the mining, petroleum, chemicals, shipbuilding, conversion and scrapping, turbine engine manufacturing and aircraft engine overhaul industries for periods ranging from World War II through the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Gravel has also applied his historical research and investigatatory expertise to toxic tort, products liability, wrongful death and other lawsuits. Some of the work on these projects has included research and investigations relating to alternate causation, state-of-knowledge, industry practices, level-of-awareness, and regulatory development and regulatory oversight issues. In this capacity he has worked on national and international cases, and multi-jurisdictional cases for individual defendants and joint defense groups alike.
